Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.


1) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-12166)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to boundary error in the read_key() function when "Key Method 1" is used. A remote unauthenticated attacker can send a specially crafted key, trigger buffer overflow and cause denial of service or execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.


2) Resource exhaustion (CVE-ID: CVE-2024-5594)

The vulnerability allows a remote peer to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to application accepts control channel messages with nonprintable characters. A remote peer can send garbage to openvpn log, or cause high CPU load.
