Description
This security bulletin contains information about 5 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-20897)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input. A remote attacker can send specially crafted packets to port 4506 and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
2) Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-20898)
The vulnerability allows a local user to bypass implemented security restrictions.
The vulnerability exists due to Git Providers get the same cache directory base name and can read from the wrong environment. A local user can gain access to sensitive information or corrupt data.
3) UNIX symbolic link following (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-34049)
The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.
The vulnerability exists due to a symlink following issue in Salt-SSH pre-flight option. A local user can create a specially crafted symbolic link to an empty file on the system, wait for the salt to create the file for further execution, update the symbolic link and point it to another file that is under attacker's control and execute the file with root privileges.
4) Path traversal (CVE-ID: CVE-2024-22231)
The vulnerability allows a remote user to create arbitrary directories.
The vulnerability exists due to input validation error when processing directory traversal sequences during Syndic cache directory creation. A remote user can create arbitrary directories on the Salt master.
5) Path traversal (CVE-ID: CVE-2024-22232)
The vulnerability allows a remote user to perform directory traversal attacks.
The vulnerability exists due to input validation error when processing directory traversal sequences. A remote user can send a specially crafted HTTP request and read arbitrary files Salt master’s filesystem.
