Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.


1) Security features bypass (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-46908)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to improper implementation of the azProhibitedFunctions protection mechanism, which allows UDF functions such as WRITEFILE when relying on --safe for execution of an untrusted CLI script. A local user can escalate privileges on the system.


2) Code Injection (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-42889)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to an insecure variable interpolation when processing untrusted input. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted input and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

Note, the vulnerability was dubbed Text4shell.
