Description

This security bulletin contains information about 9 secuirty vulnerabilities.

1) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-25201)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to issues with the namespace replication logic. A remote authenticated attacker can write a malicious config entry that causes infinite raft and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

2) Cross-site scripting (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-25864)

The disclosed vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data. A remote attacker can trick the victim to follow a specially crafted link and execute arbitrary HTML and script code in user's browser in context of vulnerable website.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to steal potentially sensitive information, change appearance of the web page, perform phishing and drive-by-download attacks.

3) Information disclosure (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-28053)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to excessive data output by the application. A remote attacker with operator:read ACL permissions can read the Connect CA private key configuration.

4) Security features bypass (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-28156)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to compromise the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to the security features bypass issue. A remote attacker can bypass the audit log.

5) Improper Certificate Validation (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-32574)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to compromise the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to xds does not ensure that the Subject Alternative Name of an upstream is validated. A remote attacker can perform a man-in-the-middle (MitM) attack.

6) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-36213)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to compromise the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to the xds can generate a situation where a single L7 deny intention (with a default deny policy) results in an allow action.

7) Missing Authorization (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-38698)

The vulnerability allows a remote user to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to Txn.Apply endpoint allowed services to register proxies for other services, enabling access to service traffic. A remote user can gain unauthorized access to sensitive information on the system.

8) Resource exhaustion (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-24687)

The vulnerability allows a remote user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to application does not properly control consumption of internal resources. A remote user can register a specifically-defined service that can cause Consul servers to panic.

9) Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-29153)

The disclosed vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform SSRF attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request and trick the application to initiate requests to arbitrary systems.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker gain access to sensitive data, located in the local network or send malicious requests to other servers from the vulnerable system.
