Description

This security bulletin contains information about 4 secuirty vulnerabilities.

1) Stack-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-12481)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the find_option function in option.cc when processing a crafted file. A remote unauthenticated attacker can trigger stack-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

2) Stack-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-12482)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the ledger::parse_date_mask_routine function in times.cc when processing a crafted file. A remote unauthenticated attacker can trigger stack-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

3) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-2807)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The weakness exists in the tag parsing functionality due to buffer overflow. A remote attacker can trick the victim into loading a specially crafted journal file, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code with privileges of the current user.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.

4) Use-after-free error (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-2808)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The weakness exists in the account parsing functionality due to use-after-free error. A remote attacker can trick the victim into loading a specially crafted journal file, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code with privileges of the current user.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.
