Description
This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Improper input validation (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-8226)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to an error when processing HTTP 2.0 requests within the HTTP.sys driver. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP response to vulnerable system and crash it.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may allow an attacker to perform a denial of service attack.
2) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-8231)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to boundary error within the HTTP Protocol Stack (Http.sys). A remote unauthenticated attacker can send a specially crafted packet to a targeted Http.sys server, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
