Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.


1) Memory corruption (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-9432)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The weakness exists in the DatabaseName::read function in lib/StarWriterStruct.cxx due to out-of-bounds write. A remote attacker can trigger stack-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.

2) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-9432)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to boundary error with DatabaseName::read function in lib/StarWriterStruct.cxx. A remote unauthenticated attacker can create a specially crafted office file, trick the victim into opening it using the affected library, trigger stack-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system with privileges of the current user.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
