Description
This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2016-3947)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in Heap-based buffer overflow in the Icmp6::Recv function in icmp/Icmp6.cc in the pinger utility in Squid before 3.5.16 and 4.x before 4.0.8. A remote attacker can use an ICMPv6 packet. to trigger heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
2) Memory corruption (CVE-ID: CVE-2016-3948)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.The weakness exists due to improper bounds checking. A remote attacker can use a specially crafted HTTP response, related to Vary headers, trigger memory corruption and cause the service to crash.
