Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.

1) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2015-0973)

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to read and manipulate data.

Buffer overflow in the png_read_IDAT_data function in pngrutil.c in libpng before 1.5.21 and 1.6.x before 1.6.16 allows context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary code via IDAT data with a large width, a different vulnerability than CVE-2014-9495.

2) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2014-9495)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing data within the png_combine_row function in libpng before 1.5.21 and 1.6.x before 1.6.16, when running on 64-bit systems. A remote attacker can pass a specially crafted file to the affected application, trigger heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
