Cyberattack cripples operations of Japan’s larger brewer Asahi

Japanese brewing giant Asahi Group Holdings has been hit by a cyberattack that has caused a major system failure, forcing the company to suspend order processing, shipments, and customer service operations across Japan.

Asahi has confirmed in a statement that the incident has disrupted its domestic operations, including production at its 30 plants across the country. The company has not been able to resume manufacturing and said it could not yet predict when operations will be restored.

The company noted that there has been no confirmed leakage of personal information or customer data to external parties.

While the full scale of the attack is still under investigation, the company said that its international operations, including those in Europe, the UK, Oceania, and Southeast Asia, remain unaffected.

The disruption has impacted core logistics, including ordering and shipping, which have been completely suspended. Additionally, customer service desks and call centers are currently unavailable to the public.

Asahi, which holds roughly one-third of Japan’s domestic beer market, employs 30,000 people and reported nearly $20 billion in revenue in 2024. The group also owns several global beer brands, including Peroni, Pilsner Urquell, Grolsch, and Fuller's.

The company said it is working to identify the source of the attack while attempting to restore affected systems. No timeline has been provided for when operations will return to normal.
