Cloud hosting provider Leaseweb shuts down some systems after security breach

The Netherlands-based LeaseWeb, one of the largest hosting providers in the world, has disabled some of its systems following a security breach.

In a notice sent to its customers, the company explained that on the night of August 22, it detected suspicious activity “within certain areas of our cloud environments” leading to downtime for some of its customers.

In response to the incident, the company took a number of measures, including shutting down some of its critical systems impacting the Customer Portal.

LeaseWeb said it is working to restore the systems and has engaged third-party security experts to help investigate the incident.

“Our investigation is still ongoing, but we’ve successfully contained the incident, improved our security measures, and haven’t found any more unauthorized activity,” the company said.

Earlier this month, Danish cloud hosting service provider CloudNordic suffered a devastating ransomware attack, which paralyzed the company’s infrastructure, including websites and email systems, as well as its customers’ systems.
