Anonymous hacker collective announced that it is officially at war against Russia following an escalation in Russia-Ukraine relations, which led to a full-scale war in Ukraine launched by the Russian Federation.
“The Anonymous collective is officially in cyber war against the Russian government,” the collective tweeted.
The group has already taken credit for a number of cyber incidents, including distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks that had brought down Russian government platforms and broadcasters, including the Kremlin website and those of several Russian state news agencies, such as Fontanka, TASS and Kommersant.
Some Russian news websites have been blamed for spewing propaganda from the Kremlin in which Ukraine's fighters are described as Nazis and Russia is viewed as a liberating force.
Its reporters also insisted the Russian military is not targeting civilians, despite images of bloodied Ukrainians, cruise missiles, and damaged tower blocks, leading many Russians to believe that the conflict was provoked by the West and the war activities are nothing more than a peacekeeping mission.
On Sunday, Anonymous announced that the internal network of Belarusian railways has been compromised and all services blocked. The group claims it will deactivate them until Russian troops will leave the territory of Belarus.
Cybersecurity Help’s statement on the critical situation in Ukraine
On February 24, people in many cities and towns across Ukraine woke up to the sounds of explosions and artillery fire, as the Russian Federation launched a full-scale invasion of the country. Such actions are unacceptable, political ambitions of any man aren’t worth of blood, tears, and destruction of millions of lives. We give our full support to the Ukrainian people in these hard times. No more war!
