Electronic Warfare Associates (EWA), a U.S.-based provider of electronic warfare, cybersecurity and advanced commercial test tool systems, has revealed it has suffered a phishing attack that affected EWA email accounts.
The incident, which tool place on August 2, 2021, had “some limited impact”, the company said in a data incident notification. According to EWA, a threat actor infiltrated EWA email and attempted wire fraud, after which the intrusion was detected. The company said it has no reason to believe that the goal of the hacker was to obtain personal information.
“Nevertheless, the threat actor’s activities did result in the exfiltration of files with certain personal information,” EWA admitted.
The stolen information included names, social security numbers (SSNs), and the driver's license of the notice recipients.
At this point, it’s unclear if the data breach affects only company’s employees, or the hacker managed to steal technical information from EWA.
